Fished Saturday and part of Sunday...
Plan was to fish the front side and hope for a Yellow on the Iron and back up plan was a bonita or barracuda. Had Peter Dirado, Logan and Logan's Friend Hendricks....
Made some Spanish macks and Green Back at the Horseshoe Kelp on Friday, looking for the legal Barracuda that were supposed to be there according to Fish Dope... none.... but we made some drifts getting bait for the next day. Back to Saturday, made our way to Cat and decided to stay on the frontside due to the potential for weather on the back.
First stop was at Willows Cove and we found the ledge loaded with fish on the meter. So we anchored there...we never left the whole day. Nice weather and fish up on the bait made it easy to identify what we were seeing. Bass, Bonita, Barracuda and the occasional Yellowtail. This tournament is always tough when you have the fish around the boat and can't get them off the bait. We had the boys throwing iron all day off the bow...it helped Hendricks as he couldn't cast more than 20 ft, but by the end of the second day, he was almost up there with Logan!...Pete and I fished bait on the back and helped Id the catch, when the fish would swim through on the iron fish, we started throwing the other stuff...swim baits, Krocodiles, small iron, flashy iron, flies on a Carolina rig,,,etc... we finally went to a Hook up bait on 6 lb test and the Trout rod... bam, a fish was caught. That rod was then past off to Pete and he got 2 more on that rig. Meanwhile, Hendricks got his on a Caivo scrambled Egg iron...pretty awesome.... Last but not least, Logan got one after 5 casts on the same Hook up bait.
Having got some qualifiers, we looked to up the bid with a Yellow or a barracuda, but the cuda were not prevalent and the yellows would show on the tide change and only come and look at the jigs. We didn't hook any on bait either. Stayed the night in Whites, next to Joint Venture. Metered some nice marks there on bait on Sunday morning. Did not hook anything other than big Macks in there.
Sunday was said to be rough and we decided to try the East End for half a day as there was supposed to be a chance at C-bass on that side of the Island. We only had half a bag of dead frozen squid but were
