Left the dock with pat, Dave Herrera and Shawn Kauss to fish Marlin out by Catalina. We made some bait S of the Red Bouy without too much difficulty even if they were a little small. We put the lines in just SE of the Avalon Bank and within about 30 minutes we had a bite on the short corner (Dave's favorite Pink combo of squids and lure) that let go and then grabbed the rigger (B/P Pakula behind a chain of B/W birds). Dave put the drop back out but the fish never had a chance to see it. Dave fought the fish for about 18 minutes and Pat leadered and released a nice Marlin. Estimated at about 125#. The rest of the morning we spend around the A Bank, up to Long Point, back to the A Bank then out to the 152 in the afternoon. The most bait and life was out at the 152 area but no luck for us. It sounded like we may have caught the only Marlin on Saturday. We pulled them in around 5 pm and headed back to the harbor. It was nice to get out and shake the rust off the Marlin gear and even better to be lucky enough to get a fish. Good luck out there to everyone. I'm sure there will be many more caught in the near future.
Best,
G
