Well, I thought I would start a discussion with the club since you guys are tuned into what's going on with the local scene better than I am.
My finances are better now, better than they were even 2 years ago. (I wish Bob hadn't sold his boat).
I can afford to buy a small boat and pay for slip fees. I have a line on a older 24 ft Topaz a guy will be putting on the market in a few months. It has a 6bt cummins with 330 hp in it, recent electronics, recent tower, repaint and a first class repower job. Small at 24 feet but according to his history it gets 2.5 mph at 25 kts, tops out at 27 kts. These boats are short but are tanks. I can put the trailer in my backyard and haul it to SD rather than driving from Dana harbor.
When we first bought the Blackman, fishing the area from the coast, to Cat and SCI was generally pretty good in the summer but it seems that area has been bad for a long time. I realize I missed out on the past 10 years or so. Now, it seems the tuna are behind SCI and farther out....I think that's a little far for a 24 ft boat. It seems you have to go a long way to catch fish these days.
Am I being too negative or am I missing the normal cycles of nature?
Thanks, Bill
